Landscaping marketing for companies that build, not mow

Wingman Digital does local SEO for landscape design, installation, and outdoor build companies. The work is different from a business with a shop, because your customers are spread across a territory and Google ranks you differently in every part of it.

Your problem is a map, not a website

Most landscaping companies we look at have a decent website and almost no idea where they show up. That matters more here than in most industries, because you do not serve people who walk past your office. You serve a territory, and Google gives a different answer in every neighborhood of it.

You might rank second for landscape design in the town your yard sits in and not appear at all six miles north, in the subdivision full of the large properties you actually want. Nothing in your analytics will tell you that. It shows traffic, not absence, and absence is the whole problem.

Check visibility across the territory you serve. A search at your business address does not show the whole picture.

Three things that make landscaping different

  • Service area, not address.

A company serving thirty miles out of one yard has to earn visibility at the edges through profile depth, reviews from those areas, and pages that name the places it serves.

  • The season decides everything.

Design consultations, installation, hardscaping, and holiday lighting each have their own demand curve. Pages have to be live before the season, because ranking takes months and the season does not wait.

  • Every service is a separate search.

Landscape design, paver patios, outdoor kitchens, sod and irrigation, and holiday lighting are not one customer. Someone pricing a patio is not shopping for a design consultation.

A South Florida design and build company, not a landscaping or tree care business. Searches for a backyard remodeling company across 49 points at 3-mile spacing. Top-three finishes went from 1 of 49 on 14 April 2025 to 35 of 49 on 12 September 2026, and average position from 20.2 to 4.9, where lower is better.

Seventeen months and 74 saved scans. Design and build is a different trade from tree work or lawn maintenance, so what transfers here is the method and the territory problem rather than the trade itself.

Design work and emergency work are not the same search

A homeowner planning a landscape design is doing research. They look at photos, read about the process, and take weeks to decide. A homeowner with a limb on the roof calls whoever appears first and answers the phone. Same business, two completely different searches, and most landscaping sites are built for neither.

If design and installation is the core of what you do, that is what the site should be built around: project pages, real photography of finished work, and content that answers what a design consultation involves. Emergency work can still be listed and found without setting the tone of a business whose best jobs take months to sell.

It is worth deciding this on purpose, because it changes what gets built first.

What it costs

Plans start at $1,497 a month, and you can read what each one covers on the pricing page before talking to anyone. Four-month initial term, then month to month with 30 days notice. Map rankings typically start moving around month three, which is why starting a season ahead beats promising something faster.

Common questions

How do landscaping companies get more customers online?

Mostly through local search, where homeowners look for a specific service near them. That requires a dedicated page per service, a Google Business Profile built out for the full service area, and reviews naming both the work and the town. Wingman Digital maps current visibility across the territory first.

Do you work with lawn care and maintenance companies?

This page is written for design, installation, and outdoor build work, where a project is worth enough to justify the investment. Mowing and maintenance is a volume business with thinner margins, and the honest answer is that a $1,497 monthly plan rarely makes sense against it.

Does SEO work for a business with no storefront?

Yes, and service-area businesses can rank without a public address. Google still weights proximity, so visibility at the edges of a territory has to be earned through profile depth, location-relevant pages, and reviews from those areas. A visibility grid shows exactly where the coverage currently stops.

When should a landscaping company start SEO?

At least one season before the demand you want to capture. Local rankings generally take three to five months to move, so work starting in spring arrives in time for summer and fall rather than the spring it was meant to serve. Starting in a slow month is an advantage.

How much does landscaping marketing cost?

Local service businesses are commonly quoted $2,000 to $4,000 a month across the industry. Wingman Digital plans start at $1,497 a month, with what each plan covers written out on the pricing page. Four-month initial term, then month to month. No setup fee.
